Hydroseeding & Sod
A new lawn is mostly about what happens under the grass. Loam depth, grading, and seed contact decide whether you end up with a thick even lawn or a patchy mess you are reseeding every fall. Fieldstone Landscape & Masonry has been putting in lawns that actually fill in across New Hampshire since 1999.
We install hydroseed and sod. We also do the grading, loam, and site prep that makes either one work. If the ground is not right, we will say so before we take the job.
Most of our lawn calls come from homeowners who just finished a build, a septic install, or a landscape project and want a lawn that looks like it has been there for years. Done right, it gets there fast. A hydroseeded lawn typically germinates in 10 to 14 days and fills in completely within three months. We cover Newton, Plaistow, Kingston, Hampstead, Atkinson, and surrounding NH and northern MA towns.
What We Offer
We handle both hydroseeding and sod, and we help you decide which one makes sense for your site.
Hydroseeding
Seed, starter fertilizer, mulch, and tackifier go into the tank and get sprayed on in one pass. The mulch holds moisture and the tackifier locks seed to soil so it does not wash off in the first storm.

Hydroseeding vs. Sod: Which Is Right for You
There is no universal answer here. It comes down to budget, timeline, site, and how much watering you are willing to do.
Hydroseeding Works Best For
Larger lawns where sod would be expensive. Sloped areas where you need erosion control. New construction sites with open space. Budgets that need to stretch further. You will see green in a couple weeks and a full lawn in a season.
Sod Works Best For
Front yards where you want an instant finished look. Small lots. Areas with dogs, kids, or foot traffic that would trample seed. Projects with a tight timeline like a home sale or an event. Sod is ready to walk on within a couple of weeks.
What We Recommend
Often a mix. Sod in the front where curb appeal matters most, hydroseed on larger back yards or slopes. We tell you honestly what we would do on your site and why.
Why Fieldstone for Your New Lawn
A lot of outfits will throw loam and seed on the ground and call it a lawn. Getting grass to actually fill in and hold up takes more care than that.
Proper Loam Depth
Four to six inches of screened loam is the minimum for a lawn that roots deep enough to handle New England summers. We do not cut that corner. It is the single biggest reason cheap lawns fail.
The Right Seed Mix
We match seed mix to the site. Sun, shade, foot traffic, and what else is around all factor in. A Kentucky bluegrass blend for front yards, a shadier mix for tree-covered areas, and a harder-wearing blend for kids and dogs.
We Finish the Grading First
Bumps, ruts, and bad pitch get fixed before any lawn goes in. That means the finished lawn looks even and drains right instead of puddling in a low spot every time it rains.
Honest About What Works
If your site has a real problem, like shade so heavy nothing will grow or soil that needs serious work, we tell you. Sometimes planted beds or a different ground cover is the better answer than forcing a lawn where one will not thrive.
How a Lawn Install Runs
Most lawn installs wrap up in a few days once prep is done.
1. Site Visit and Estimate
We walk the property, measure, and check soil, grade, and drainage. You get a written estimate that breaks out loam, prep, and installation.
2. Site Prep
Rocks, debris, and old grass get cleared. Grade gets corrected. Screened loam gets delivered and spread to proper depth.
3. Final Grade
The loam gets raked and rolled to a smooth even finish. This is the last chance to fix bumps, and we spend real time here.
4. Hydroseed or Sod
Hydroseed goes on from the tank in one pass with seed, fertilizer, mulch, and water. Sod rolls out, gets seamed tight, and gets rolled to lock it into the soil.
5. Watering Handoff
We walk you through exactly how to water the first few weeks. That is the one variable you control, and it is the difference between a lawn that takes and one that struggles.
Hydroseeding & Sod FAQs
How long does hydroseed take to grow in?
You will see green sprouts in 10 to 14 days with good watering. A full thick lawn fills in within about three months. Overseeding the following spring helps it thicken up even more.
Can I walk on sod right after installation?
Not for the first couple of weeks while it roots into the soil. Light foot traffic is fine after that. Full use, dogs, and kids running across it should wait three to four weeks.
What time of year should a lawn go in?
Late spring through early fall works for both hydroseed and sod in New Hampshire. Fall installs often do best because cooler weather and fall rain reduce watering stress.
How much does hydroseeding or sod cost?
Pricing depends on square footage, loam depth, and site prep. Hydroseed is generally less expensive per square foot than sod. A site visit and written estimate give you a firm number.
Do you guarantee the lawn will grow in?
Our prep and installation work is guaranteed. The lawn itself depends on proper watering after we leave, which is on you. We give you a clear watering schedule and are available for questions.
