Patios
A good patio sits flat in April, drains after a summer storm, and still looks level 10 winters in. A cheap patio starts heaving in year two. The difference is almost always the base. That is why Fieldstone Landscape & Masonry has been building patios the slow, right way for New Hampshire homeowners since 1999.
We build patios in natural stone, bluestone, granite, and paver. Small entry pads, large entertainment spaces with fire pits and sitting walls, pool decks, paver walkways, and full outdoor living rooms tied into the rest of the yard. If you want matching paver driveways or entry aprons, we handle those on the same job.
Most patio calls we take are from homeowners replacing something that failed. That makes us particular about base prep. Nobody wants to pay to fix the same patio twice. Service area covers Newton, Plaistow, Kingston, Hampstead, Atkinson, and surrounding NH and northern MA towns.

Why Fieldstone for Your Patio
Anyone can lay pavers. Building a patio that sits level through 30 freeze-thaw cycles is a different job. Here is what sets this crew apart.
The Base Is Where We Spend Time
A patio lives or dies in the 8 inches under it. We excavate to the right depth, install crushed stone in compacted lifts, and set proper edge restraint. No shortcuts on prep, ever.
Drainage Is Built In
Every patio gets pitched so water moves. If the site drains poorly, we tie in a drainage solution before a single stone goes down. That is why our patios do not pool.
Masonry and Hardscape Under One Roof
Walls, steps, fire pits, pillars, and the patio itself come from the same crew. If you want a sitting wall built into the patio, a fire pit, or a full custom stone feature, we handle it without subbing out.
Guaranteed, Honest Work
The finished patio is backed by our guarantee. No surprise line items during the job. If something is not right, we come back and make it right.
How a Patio Build Runs
A good patio takes about a week to a few weeks depending on size and features. Here is how the work flows.
1. Site Visit and Design
We walk the yard, take measurements, and talk through what you want the space to do. Entertaining, a quiet morning coffee spot, a full outdoor room. We sketch a layout and help you pick materials that fit the look and the budget.
2. Written Estimate
You get a written estimate that spells out scope, materials, and cost. Any site-specific risks, such as ledge or drainage issues, are flagged up front.
3. Excavation
We dig to the correct depth for the patio type. Pavers and dry-set stone need a different depth than mortared stone. Soil gets removed, slopes get set, and any drainage tie-ins get installed.
4. Base Installation
Crushed stone goes in and gets compacted in lifts. The bedding layer goes on top of that and gets screeded flat. Edge restraint gets set. This is the boring part. It is also the part that makes the patio last.
5. Stone or Paver Installation
Stone gets laid by hand, cut clean on site, and joints get tooled or swept depending on the patio type. Any built-in features like fire pits, sitting walls, or steps go in along the way.
6. Finish and Walk-Through
Joints get finished. Edges get cleaned up. Any surrounding grading and loam gets restored. We walk the finished patio with you before the crew pulls off the site.
Patio FAQs
How much does a patio cost in New Hampshire?
It depends on size, material, and site access. A small paver patio costs a lot less than a large natural stone patio with a fire pit and sitting wall. After a site visit you get a firm written estimate with materials and scope broken out.
Which is better, pavers or natural stone?
Both work well when installed properly. Pavers are predictable, come in a range of looks, and are generally less expensive. Natural stone looks native to New England, ages beautifully, and holds value long term. We help you choose based on the look you want and the budget.
Why do some patios heave and crack?
Almost always a base or drainage problem. Not enough excavation, poor compaction, no drainage tie-in, or missing edge restraint. When we tear out a failed patio, one of those four things is the cause nearly every time.
How long does a patio installation take?
A small simple patio can go in over a week. A large patio with steps, walls, and a fire pit can run three to four weeks. Weather and site access change the number. We give you a realistic timeline before the job starts.
Can you match a patio to my existing stone or masonry?
Yes. If you already have stone walls, walkways, or a foundation facing, we can match materials and style so the new patio looks like it was there from day one.
